Josh Allen has finally taken the top spot in ESPN's annual NFL quarterback rankings, edging out Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Buffalo Bills' quarterback has long pushed to surpass Mahomes, and after years of competition, he finally won the No. 1 spot as voted on by league executives, coaches, and scouts. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler noted that Allen has made significant strides in reducing turnovers, averaging eight interceptions per season since 2024, down from 15.7 from 2021-23. He also fumbled 12 times over the last two years, an improvement from his 20 fumbles from the previous two seasons. Allen is the only quarterback in NFL history to have at least 25 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns in three consecutive seasons, a feat he achieved over the past three seasons. Despite his success, Allen's playoff performances have been inconsistent, with a notable loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round where he turned the ball over four times. The Bills have attempted to revamp their offense to better support Allen, including firing head coach Sean McDermott and bringing in offensive coordinator Joe Brady. They also made a trade for Chicago Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore, hoping he could become Allen's primary target. Moore, who signed a 4-year, $110 million contract extension with the Bears, has struggled with consistency, with his receiving yards declining over the past two years. Despite these challenges, Allen's consistent productivity and historic achievements have solidified his position as the top NFL quarterback.
